  • Susan Hinkley, CAE, Vice President & General Manager, Community Outreach/Product Service Council liaison
    Oversees staff and organizes events and volunteers for numerous Community Outreach programs, including the Food Drive and the All-Stars Sports Challenge; is the liaison to the HAA supplier committee, the Product Service Council. Oversees office building maintenance, rentals, supply purchase and vendor contracts.

    Monitors government actions in Houston, Harris County and surrounding cities and districts, as well as the state and federal levels. Keeps members up-to-date on government action - pro and con - and works with government policymakers to see that the needs of the apartment industry are considered.

  • Alpa Patel, Public Affairs Manager 
    Assist VP of Public Affairs with the Legislative Committee meetings. Oversee administration, fundraising, and endorsement recommendations relating to the HAA Political Action Committee and monitoring, communication and advocacy with the City of Houston, particularly the office of the mayor, the city council and key departments including police, fire, planning, public works and health. Point of contact for media - arranging talking points and coordinating interviews with HAA members for reporters and monitoring press coverage of the apartment industry.

    Oversees all outreach programs for the association and is responsible for bringing targeted networking and educational offerings to HAA’s 12-county service area. She serves as the staff liaison for the Outreach Committee and works closely with HAA’s Vice President’s At Large. Assist elected officials with apartment-related constituent requests.

Morgan graduated from the University of Alabama in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in journalism. She has a background in writing and editing for newspapers and magazines.

Celebrating CAEs at HAA!


In 1960, the American Society of Association Executives created the Certified Association Executive (CAE) program. This was designed to elevate professional standards, enhance individual performance and designate those who demonstrate knowledge essential to the practice of association management. There are 4,408 CAEs globally, with 212 in the state of Texas. Approximately 5% of association executives have achieved earning this credential.

The CAE is highly regarded by those in the association management profession, including the professional staff at the Houston Apartment Association. As of today, HAA has six employees with the CAE credential, the most of any local or state association in the world, and second overall to one large national association, American College of Emergency Physicians, that has 160 staff and nine CAEs. HAA has a staff of 22, six being CAEs.
